Residents may be ticketed if caught Yielding insteading of Stopping at Stop Signs
Summerville Police have warned the crime watch they will be TICKETING folks who are YIELDING, instead of STOPPING at the Stop Signs. As well as folks speeding, especially around the back roads of Gahagan. Remember it is illegal as well as a safety issue.
Warning As the neighborhood HOA and Crime Watch looked into the comment made by the below unidentified Homeowner. We wanted to be sure that our stop signs are indeed legal, as they are placed there for the safety of drivers and pedestrians and that they should be strongly enforced. The police department confirmed that our Stop Signs are very legal. They went as far as going to every judge and searching court cases for this neighborhood to see if such a case ever occured. There was no such record. So please take the warning, that the Summerville Police gave to us at the annual meeting and will again stress to the neighbors at the Annual Picnic on August 2nd, Speeding, Not stopping at Stop signs, will get you a ticket. So please for everyones safety please do not be in such a hurry and do a California Roll, it’s not legal in Gahagan or SC.
If you have been ticketed by Summerville police for rolling through and or not coming to a complete stop at the Black Oak Blvd. stop sign near the catholic school, go to court with a picture of the front and back of the stop sign you are being accused of, NOT STOPPING, and give a plea of NOT GUILTY. You will be rolling out of court with no fine or points, I DID IT!!! Most of the stops signs in Gahagan are not D.O.T. certified and are not legal stop signs. Each legal stop sign must have a D.O.T. sticker on the backside of the sign, or the town does not have legal jurisdiction to summons you. As long as you slowed down to look both ways and yeilded, you are not guilty of a crime when the stop signs are NOT D.O.T. certified.
And for the the residences that call the police for such petty acts on the ones they live with, you need to get a life and find something more constructive to do with your free time. I know that stop sign bothers old man Longest the most, and that is his biggest pet peeves with Gahagan, and of course he complained about it right after we had a gang style slaying in our hood at one of the HOA meetings. Really??? By the way, his son was the biggest offender of rolling through the four way.
