April 17 Letter from President
Dear Neighbor,
Please see the ballot for next year’s GHOA board. This year we are meeting in the front lawn of the Epps home at 609 Black Oak (Corner of Black Oak and Factor Walk) on Tuesday, May 22 @ 7pm. Please bring a lawn chair. On the agenda is covering the issues below, but also having at local realtor talk about the housing market in our area. If you have any questions you would like a realtor to answer, please email me. If the event of heavy rain, we will meet the following week. Please mail back the ballot to our PO Box or place it in the basket on my porch (194 Gibbon Court) by May the 8th this will help the establishment of a quorum. You may also bring the ballot with you to the meeting.
We are looking for several board members this year. There is an immediate need for a treasurer. Our current treasurer has gone to great lengths to move the financial information into QuickBooks for ease of entry. If you are interested or would like to receive information please contact me at gahaganhoa.president@gmail.com . Serving on the board doesn’t have to take much time. We meet one evening per month for maybe 2 hours and take a summer month and December off for family time. It is getting very difficult to manage the HOA if there are not enough members to serve on the board. Many communities are now going to independent community managers to work on the behalf of a board. This way everything is 3rd party. That is neighbors not governing neighbors. While this is convenient, it does cost money. We would like to know what your thoughts on this would be.
There is also a survey that we would like to know the communities interest level. This is just a SURVEY. If there is enough interest, the board will discuss in future meetings. If we do move forward, we may form an ad hoc committee to address the issue that is in the best interest of the neighborhood. If you would like to serve on an ad hoc committee, please indicate on your survey.
The two main issues are:
1. Parking on the neighborhood streets seems to be an on-going concern. Last year the board attempted to address street parking but came up short in the number of votes. On analysis, a few of those that voted against or did not vote on the measure, did not understand the resolution. It was poorly worded, for that I take responsibility. This time around if there is enough interest based on this survey, we may attempt to address this issue again, but we will form an ad hoc committee to help formulate the resolution.
2. There is the growing popularity of solar panels. The board understands the homeowners desire for potential cost savings, we just don’t want it to come at the expense of the values of our homes. You can drive around many committees and see these solar panels and then determine for yourself whether they are aesthetically pleasing. If there is enough interest on the survey, we may again form an ad hoc committee to determine the best course of action for our community.
Finally, we would like to have people who are interested in serving on a non-governing committees such as Welcoming a New Neighbor, Crime Watch, or a Social committee. If you are interested in any of these please email me at gahaganhoa.president@gmail.com .
I look forward to meeting with you on the 22nd.
Tom Harness, President
